This was my favorite hike around Sedona thus far easily due to the quick elevation gain via boulders and great views once atop Bear Mountain.
Bear Mountain trail was a beautiful one. The rocks are such a gorgeous orangish red color. It was a shame that we went on a cloudy day because we were only able to see the views up to a certain point. We had about a mile left to the summit when we decided to turn back since it had gotten completely foggy around us. We knew we wouldn’t have been able to see anything at the summit since that’s where the clouds were the most dense.
Regardless of sun or clouds though, this is definitely a hike that’s worth doing even if it’s just going halfway to see the rock structures. It is pretty much all uphill from the very beginning, but honestly, maneuvering around all the rocks made it seem like a quick, fun obstacle course. Definitely wear hiking shoes if it has rained. The rocks can get muddy and slippery.
It's almost impossible to beat this hike. Stunning views and elevation gains that make it a great workout. If you get there at sunrise you'll see a bunch of hot air balloons. If you can't get a parking spot at the trailhead you can generally find a spot along the road so getting there early isn't as necessary as some other trails in Sedona.
Beautiful hike. Not very popular spot so you will be most of the times alone ( which is the main reason I hike ) There are a couple of rough spots but nothing impossible. The top is gorgeous, since is a Mesa you can have the whole 4 views. Stunning!
Great hike with great views all the way up. Trail becoming a bit difficult for the up and over the ridge. Hikers that were descending didn't know trail etiquette and stood in my way literally blocking my Ascent until I asked them to move. People please read trail etiquette and abide by it whenever possible.
Hard trail. There are three false summits but it's worth the difficulty. I am diabetic so I always bring extra items and plenty of water.
Pay attention to the blaze marks and your navigation app. Take your time and enjoy the views which makes up for the difficulty of the trail.
We skipped Bear Mountain and climbed Doe mtn instead. Nice walk with very few people. It was a nice break from the crowded trails. Probably less than an hour to summit of the mesa. Once on top there are trails all over the summit. We spent another couple hours exploring, taking pics, and watching the bluebirds. Several of them hanging out. 360 views. Little effort with great reward.
The hike here was, I'd say, a little tough because of all the climbing, but I saw plenty of older people, including myself, who made it up the rocks with a bit of care and huffing and puffing. We only went half way because the day was cloudy and rainy, so there was no view at the top. We figured we'd take the time we saved to visit another site, but alas, the other site was closed early due to NY eve. What a bummer.
